Built in 1910, the building reflects the "Heimatstil" spirit then very fashionable: the ground floor in exposed stones, the play of roofs, the half-timbered decoration, the projecting elements such as the entrance porch, balconies and galleries, give the facades a picturesque touch.
The last resting place of the Hindemith couple, the villa is also of historical interest linked to the exceptional personality of its owner. Born in 1895 in Germany, Paul Hindemith is one of the most important representatives of twentieth-century music. A composer, instrumentalist and conductor, Mr. Hindemith is also the author of world-renowned works on music theory and pedagogy. A leading figure of the musical avant-garde in Germany in the 1920s, the young musician, fleeing Nazism, emigrated to Switzerland in 1938, before continuing his career in the United States in 1940. Having become an American citizen, he returned permanently to Switzerland in 1953 and settled in the property "La Chance". He died in 1963 and is buried in the cemetery of St-Légier.
