Union of parishes of Cepães and Fareja
Until the liberal reforms of the twentieth century. In the nineteenth century, Cepães had the status of honor, a privileged territory of a lord, which was extinguished by the decree of November 6, 1836, when it passed to the municipality of Fafe.
There are already traces of human occupation in the territory of Cepães, evident in pre- and proto-historic monuments, namely a fortified stronghold from the Iron Age (the fort of Retortinha).
Cepães was once a transit point for the railway that connected Fafe to Guimarães, and now this is the connection of the cycle tourism track.
On May 19, 2013, the Museum of Our Lady of Guadalupe – Space of Memories of S. Mamede de Cepães was inaugurated in front of the parish church.
It was the seat of a parish extinct in 2013, as part of a national administrative reform, to, together with Fareja, form a new parish called União de Freguesias de Cepães e Fareja.
Fareja is located about 6.5 km from the county seat, bordering Guimarães and Felgueiras, in a fertile region with large rural properties. Of particular note in the parish, on top of a hill, from where you can see a stunning panorama, is the existence of the Convent of Santa Cruz, where masses and preaching were celebrated in the middle of the last century.
Fareja has an area of 3.22 km² and 855 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census.
