Barco was a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Covilhã, with an area of 14.07 km² and 473 inhabitants (2011). Its population density is 33.6 inhabitants/km².

It was extinguished in 2013, as part of a national administrative reform, having been added to the parish of Coutada, to form a new parish called União das Freguesias de Barco e Coutada, of which it is the headquarters.

A bucolic village with a splendid landscape, which extends along the north bank of the Zêzere River, it was for many years the crossing point of people and goods, between the banks of the river, hence its name.

It also has Roman fountains and other remains, such as those of the passage of the Moors through the Serra da Argemela. The Serra da Argemela is rich in minerals and even before the arrival of the Romans it was explored in its search. There are, therefore, numerous caves, mines and open-pit ditches on its slopes.

Shrouded in several legends there is one that gave it its name, about a Moorish woman who wanted to marry a rich Moor. On the day of the wedding, the Moors took her to the top of the mountain, throwing her from a very deep well. Whenever there is wind, it is said that the moans of the Moorish woman can be heard among the mines, caves and wells, and from the expression in the air-groan-she resulted in the name Argemela.
